St. Patrick's G.A.A. Club Notes
Following our two point victory over Monaleen last Saturday evening at Claughaun in the final round game of the county senior football championship we avoided going into the county senior football relegation final. In our first year in senior football our football panel and management team did very well. Looking back at our year in the championship there were games that we should have won. Our first game against Ballysteen we were defeated by a single point as was the same result in our second game against Claughaun in those games we had plenty of chances for victory. Dromcollogher defeated us well and then we found our feet at senior level when we recorded victories over St. Kierans and Monaleen. Last Saturday evening was a great night for the club when we secured our status with a 2-10 to 1-11victory in a very close contest. At half time we were three points behind 0-06 to 1-06 and things did look god when we fell six points behind with ten minutes gone in the second half but our lads played very good football for the remainder of the game and with the big support behind them they came up with the result that all in the club was looking for. Many thanks for all support that showed up at Claughaun and for cheering the players off the field at the end of the game it was great to see. Our scorers on the night were John Mullane with 2-05, Brendan Teehan with 0-02 and Dermot Phelan, Patrick Mullins and Mark Phelan with 0-01each. We lined out as follows Darragh McMahon, Barry Twomey, Niall Kerins, Brendan Teehan, Robert Guerin, Mark Phelan, Tony Quigley, Gearoid Phelan, Dermot Phelan, Colin Earls, Patrick Mullins, Jeffrey McNamara, Craig McMarlow, John Mullane and Michael Geary. Subs used on the night were Kieran Ryan for Barry Twomey, Conor Kavanagh for Gearoid Phelan, David Sheehan for Robert Guerin and Garry Campbell for Colin Earls. Subs not used were Tony Hinchy, Niall Phelan, Darren Hanrahan, Eoin Hanrahan, Peter Saul, Keith Phelan and Thomas Cross. Last Friday evening at Rhebogue the future footballers of the club took to the field in the clubs under 10 football blitz. The club hosted the blitz when we had Ahane, Mungret, Ballybrown and Kildimo as visitors it was great to witness all the young Boys and Girls all trying their skills in football and specially our young players when we entered two teams and both our teams did very well. Many thanks to Christopher Mortell for his organization of the tournament and also to team managers Laurence Cross and Ger Ryan for their part that they played on the night. Many thanks to Eamonn Phelan for supplying all the teams with crisp and juices after the blitz. It was great to see our under 16 hurlers involved with the Limerick under 16 hurling team last weekend in Tipperary. Andrew Hannigan, Jason Mullins, David Doyle and Gearoid Hegarty we all involved with the Limerick team when they recorded a victory over Antrim and went on and drew with Tipperary, later on that evening they defeated Wexford to reach the Shield final on Sunday in the famous Thurles pitch when they were defeated by Cork. Well done to the four lads and hope this will be a stepping stone to your Club and intercounty hurling career. On this Friday evening our minor footballers will take on Na Piarsaigh in the final of the City minor division one football championship, the game will take place at Monaleen with a 6.45pm throw in and support will be welcomed On Saturday evening our junior hurlers will take on Na Piarsaigh in our final group game in the championship this championship game will take place at Claughaun at 6.45pm. Help will be needed for a hour or two between Thursday 16th September to Saturday 18th September when the club will be in Dunne's Stores in the Parkway shopping centre at the St. Patrick's G.A.A. bag packing to raise funds for our underage teams, we are asking for volunteers to gave their time to help out please contact by text to Christopher Mortell at 0868068245 or Eamonn Phelan at 087-2807546 if you can help.
