Minor Hurling - Mick Nevilles runners-up in West Minor-A Final
The "Mick Nevilles" minor hurling team played in the West Minor-A Final against Drom/Broadford on Friday night 27th August in Feenagh. This was a major challenge with Drom/Broadford having the upper hand and winning the trophy. On the night we never really got going and missed some early scoring opportunities. Drom/Broadford, on the other hand, hit the ground running and nevere allowed us into the game.
Minor Football
The minor football team of Sean Finn's played this Tuesday 24th Aug in Ballyhahill against the team of St. James (combination of Cappagh & Ballyhahill). This game was a one-sided affair and Sean Finn's were dominant in all areas of the field. We won this game with a score of 3:25 to St. James' score of 1:04. On Sunday 29th August the minors had another game which did not go as well for us when we met Dromcollogher/Broadford in the Bog Garden at 7pm. This was a more difficult task and we were on the losing side when the referee blew the final whistle Final core was 4-7 for Drom/Broadford to 1-7 for Sean Finns. This result almost certainly sees Drom and Adare make hte A-Final while we will have to trady our wares in the B Grade semi-finals. Our next game with this team will take place this Saturday 4th Sept when we will play against Deel Rangers in Knockaderry at 6.30pm.
Under 16 Hurling
St. Mary's under 16's have played Ahane in the quarter-final of the Championship on Tues 31st August in Ahane. Match report next week.
Under 16 Football team qualify for the final
Sean Finn's Under 16 Football team played Killuta Gaels on Wednesday 18th Aug at South Liberties GAA grounds in the Championship Semi-Final. Having been beaten by Killuta Gaels on their last encounter, the win was all the sweeter when the final whistle blew. Training will continue under the watchful eyes of Rob White and Barry O'Riordan as these lads prepare for the Championship final.
Under-21 Football
We are graded in the premier All-county division for this competition. It is due to commence on 7th Sept with a away game against Fr Caseys. This will be quickly followed by 2 home games (v Bruff) on 14th Sept and (v Mulcair Gaels) on 21-Sept. Top team from this group makes the semi-finals while the 2nd & 3rd placed teams will play the 2nd/3rd placed teams in the other group in the quarter finals. Qualification for the knock-out stages is well within our abilities. At this stage, it is vital that all U21 footballers are training so if you intend to play, get on to the management team of Niall Ryan, Dinny Guiney or Seamus Dollery.
U14 Football
On Monday night 23rd August, our U14 football team played in the Co. Quarter Final, Division 2 against Ballybrown. Ballybrown got off to an excellent start scoring two quick goals but the boys of Sean Finn's fought back gallantly playing some fine football and led at half-time with a score of 3:04 to 3:01. The second-half was keenly contested but we found it difficult to score. At the final whistle the score showed Ballybrown 5:04 while Sean Finn's had 3:05. Many thanks to Paddy O'Grady, Brian Nolan and James O'Grady who have managed and trained this team all season. The Team for Sean Finn's was as follows : E. Jacobsen, G. Mulcahy, M. Morrissey, C. Mulcahy, A. Brennan, D. O Grady, G. Mulcaire, B. Meade, P. Naughton. A. O Connor, K. Shanahan, A. White, S. Hayes, J. Moran and P.Brennan. Substitutes : J.Feane, T . Collins, S. Keating. B. Under 8 Football
U8 Football blitz was played last Friday night 27th August. As usual this was a great event for our youngest team players who enjoyed themselves under the watchful eyes of Mike Barrett. Well done to all who took part.
Junior Hurling
Training continues for the junior hurlers as they prepare for the West Semi-Final against either St Kierans or Croagh/Kilfinny. Our opposition is not decided yet as Feoghanagh still have to play Askeaton in the last quarter final. Should Feoghanagh win this one, we will meet St Kierans in the semi-final. If Askeaton win it, our semi-final opponents will be either St Kierans or Croagh/Kilfinny to be drawn from a hat. The quarter final takes place this Friday night in Croagh and we still await a firm fixture for the semi-final.
