Claughaun club notes

August 30, 2010
Our U14 footballers lost to St. Patricks in the quarter final of the Championship last Mon
23/Aug in Rhebogue. Despite missing some players the team put up a great performance
and the mgmt team of Ger Hannan, Frank Brosnahan, Mike Galligan and Kieran Canty
can look back with pride on this year and with a lot of positives for next year.
Our U13 Hurlers went top of their group on Wed 25/Aug after a great game away to Bruff.
Claughaun started really well and had an early lead of 2-01 to 0-01 midway through the
first half mainly due to 2 goals from Captain Alan Fitzgerald who was also unlucky for
a 3rd goal when hitting the crossbar. After a great start by Claughaun, Bruff came more
into the game and lead at half time by a single point. The second half saw Claughaun
cut out the mistakes from the first half and further goals from Conor Fleming 2, Sean Canty
and Conor Fitzgerald put us 4 points ahead going into the closing stages, after holding
out very well in defence we broke away and a cracking goal from Sean Canty put us out
of sight. Claughaun ran out winners by 7-03 to 4-04.A win in the final group match at home
to Knockainey will put the U13s into the County Semi Final. Claughaun lined out as follows:
Aaron Fitzgerald, Keith Quinn, Luke Coffey, Cormac O'Byrne, Nathan Breen, Kyrin McGarry,
Evan Cusack, Conor Fitzgerald, Simon Garland, Ben Wallace, Conor Fleming, Cathal Pearse,
Killian Hannan, Alan Fitzgerald, Sean Canty, Conor McCarthy, Ryan Kennedy, Gearoid Brennan
Jamie McNamara.
Our senior footballers were defeated by Ballysteen 0-8 to 0-3 last Sat 28/Aug in Clarina in the
final game of league phase of the championship. With St. Patricks defeating near neighbours
Monaleen it means that we now face NCW in the relegation final, date to be fixed.
Fri 27/Aug we participated in the U8F blitz in a sunny Na Piarsaigh venue, which also featured
The home team and a team from Mungret, a very enjoyable and sporting evening of football for all.
