St. Patrick's Club Notes
August 25, 2010
Our Clubs hurling & football Cúl Camp took place at Rhebogue last week were the young Boy's and Girl's were treated with plenty of hurling and football skills all week, and it was great to see the big turnout of numbers. Many thanks to the County coaches Colm O Brien, Claire Kelleher, Cormac Joyce Power and Pat Culhane for looking after our young players for the week and "specially" to the young players for been so good all week, on Friday last all the players received their new gear and medals from intercounty hurling player Thomas O Brien and many thanks to Thomas for signing all the hurlers, tops, boots and all other things the young players wanted to sign. This Cul Camp would not have been successful only for the work of our underage committee and especially to Christopher Mortell and Colm O Brien who organise the event. Our senior footballers after three attempts finally got their first victory in the Limerick senior football championship when we defeated St. Kieran's in Kilmallock last Saturday evening. Our senior footballers started this game in great form when John Mullane opened our account with a point from play within the first minute, but when Michael Geary who was man of the match got our first goal we never looked back and we were not going to lose this game Dermot Phelan added our second point before Colin Earls hit the St. Kieran's net with a great shot, a minute later we were three goals up when Dermot Phelan added our third goal. It was all smiles following our heartbreak of losing our last three championship games and when Jeffrey Mc Namara scored his first point since his return to the first team with twelve minutes gone on the clock, we were thirteen points a head 3-04 to 0-01. Patrick Mullins, Jeffrey McNamara, Gearoid Phelan, Michael Geary and John Mullane all added points before the half time break to leave the score at 3-09 to 0-05 going into the second half. Following the break and playing the same great football that won us the county intermediate championship last year we continued to impress when John Mullane added three more points from play before Conor Kavanagh added our fourth goal of the game when he was introduce as a second half replacement for Gearoid Phelan, John Mullane had our final score of the game when he coolly pointed from play to leave us to win our first victory in senior football championship at 4-13 to 0-10. We lined out as follows follows Darragh McMahon, Brendan Teahan, Niall Kerins, Barry Toomey, Tony Quigley, Mark Phelan, Robert Guerin, John Mullane, Dermot Phelan, Patrick Mullins, Gearoid Phelan, Jeffrey Mc Namara, Colin Earls, Michael Geary and Graig McMarlow. Subs used were Keith Phelan for Niall Kerins (injured) Connor Kavanagh for Gearoid Phelan. Our scorers on the evening were John Mullane (0-07), Dermot Phelan (1-02), Michael Geary (1-01), Colin Earls (1-00), Patrick Mullins (0-01) and Gearoid Phelan (0-01). A victory again this Saturday evening over Monaleen will help to keep us in senior football for next year this important game will take place at Claughaun at 7pm. Best of luck to our under 16 club hurling players Andrew Hannigan, Jason Mullins, Gearoid Hegarty and David Doyle who will be part of the Limerick under 16 hurling team panel for this weekend tournament in Tipperary where they will be playing Antrim and Tipperaray. A very heafty defeat for our under 16 hurlers in the last group match of this competition. We started out well and scored a point in the first few minutes through a Jason Mullins free, but we conceade a goal early on and needed to up the tempo and in doing so we were rewarded another three frees that Jason Mullins had no problem putting over. We again conceded a very silly goal but finished strong with points from play two from Jason Mullins and one from Andrew Hannigan, a well taken goal from Jason Mullins when he flicked into the Bruff net to leave the score level at half time 2-04 to our 1-07 .We just didn't perform in the second half and our only score of the second came from Jason Mullins. Bruff to their credit out played us eventhough we conceded very sloppy goals had the better of the play in the second half tro leave the final score at Bruff 5-13 St.Patrick's 1-08. Again this was a poor turn out with thanks to Alan Walsh for coming along to play.We will really have to improve our game if we are to overcome Na Piarsigh in the knock out stages. Our scorers were Jason Mullin's with 1-07 and Andrew Hannigan with 0-01. We lined out as follows Brian Purcell, Dean O'Neill, David Doyle, Luke Reeves, Stephen Collins, Lee Nicholas, Adam Rowan, Andrew Hannigan, James Clancy, Cormac O'Donnell, Jamie Kennedy, Adam MacMaghnuis, Alan Walsh, Jason Mullins and Ryan Harris.
Thanking You
