Under 16 All-County Hurling League Div 2 Quarter Final
Killulta Gaels 2-23 .Granagh-Ballingarry 2-5
The Killulta Gaels Under-16 hurlers qualified for the ACL semi-final with a convincing win over Granagh-Ballingarry on Saturday August 21st. Right from the start, Killulta applied pressure on the Granagh-Ballingarry backs and midfield. They scored an early goal and then continued with a most amazing demonstration of accurate point scoring, hitting very few wides in the process. With a 2nd goal resulting from a free midway through the first half, Killulta had clocked up a score of 2-16 to 0-1 by half time. Barry O'Connell was a towering presence in midfield with half-forwards Martin Nunan and Jack O'Keefe creating havoc in the Granagh-Ballingarry defence as they scored freely.
Granagh-Ballingarry came back into the game in the 2nd half, moving their centre back into a more forward position, where he was quite effective. The Killulta mentors duly emptied the bench and Killulta continued to score points, though not as freely as in the first half. Granagh-Ballingarry scored 2-4 to Killulta's 7 points in the 2nd half. Overall, an great team display by Killulta and we look forward to a continuation of this excellent form in the semi-final in 2 week's time.
