Na Piarsaigh club notes

August 16, 2010
Our Senior hurlers consigned the nightmare of last years 17 point loss to Adare into the vaults when they beat the defending 3 in a row Co. Champions 4-12 to 2-15 in a thriller. For long periods of this game we were chasing and and did not look like winners but some master switches turned this game on its head in the final quarter. The introduction of Cathal King for the injured Aidan Hennessey was pivotal as Cathal turned in a man of the match performance for his 46 minutes dominating the midfield area. Adrian Breen livened up the attack with his introduction and most of all the switch of David Breen to centre forward completley turned this game. David's running tore open the Adare half back line and allowed all our forwards more space. David Lynch to corner back also battened down the hatches. Shane Dowling hurled out of his skin for all of the game contributing 1-8 but his goal from a 20m free was to turn this game on its head. After the game, the team were applauded off the field in what was one of our sweetest ever victories. Adare mentors and supporters showed what great champions they were with their resounding congratulations. A semi-final draw against hot favourties Kilmallock awaits us on the weekend of Sept 12/13th but after our recent U/21 win against the same opposition, we will not fear them. Team: Padraig Kennedy, Aidan Hennessey (capt), Kieran Bermingham, Pa Guinnane, Brian Hartnett, David Bree, Alan Dempsey, Pat Gleeson, David Lynch, Shane Dowling (1-8, 1-4 frees), Shane O'Neill, John Madden, Kevin Ryan (1-1), Kevin Downes (1-1), Bradley Russell, Subs used: Cathal King, Adrian Breen (1-2), Paul McNamara, Robert Sheehan.

Our U/14 hurlers have reached the Co. Final following a big win 3-9 to 0-4 win over Mungret in the semi-final played at Fedamore. Leading by 7 points to two at half time, we were reduced to 14 men just before the break and Mungret dominated the opening period of the second half. However, two goals and two points from full forward Shane Fenton and another from Jason O'Callaghan killed the Mungret challenge. Scorers Shane Fenton 2-2, Ronan Lynch 0-6, Jaso O'Callaghan 1-0, Kieran Daly 0-1. We now will meet Feile champions Monaleen in the final.
