City handball finals set to take centre stage

The all city primary and post primary schools finals will take place on Tuesday March 23rd in the Southill area centre in the Southside of Limerick city.
Teams from both primary and secondary schools all over Limerick city will make there way to the alley situated in the popular community centre in Southill to battle it out to become all city champions for 2010.
A number of categories will be played on the day in both primary and secondary level and the new city singles and doubles winners will be crowned after what will be a hectic day of play.
The Post-Primary blitz will kick off at 10am sharp and it will see the clash of North and Southside.
St Nessans community college representing the strong force that is Northside of Limerick city will face off against the might of the sports driven Sexton Street school that is Limerick's CBS. Both a singles and doubles competition in junior and senior will be played out in the revived competition that should attract interest from all across Limerick city.
Meanwhile later in the morning, 10.30am approx, the first ever 4th and 5th class inter city blitz will feature teams from 9 different primary schools, predominantly for the North and Southside regeneration areas of Limerick city, to battle it out in this brand new competition. These are new players that have been coached vigorously in the schools of Limerick over the past number of months by world champion coach Donal Hayes, Adrian O Sullivan (Northside) & Ger Downes (Southside) of Limerick GAA.
This blitz will also be the first time that any of these players will play to represent there schools in a competitive handball blitz.
After lunch the progress development blitz will take place. This blitz will feature the school teams that competed so well at Christmas time in the, what was, first inter-city 2009 finals held also in the wonderful centre in Southill. This will blitz will test each and every players skills to the limit as each participant once again competes against the best players at primary schools level from right across Limerick city.
The revival of the ancient and traditional game of handball has been very exciting in Limerick city over the past number of months. The participation and interest levels in the game have far surpassed all expectations & this all day blitz, which by days end will have seen over 70 players play and compete in the centre, will have further cemented handballs place in this Sporting city.
