Limerick camogie notes
March 02, 2010
Inter-County 2010
Senior
The senior team are getting ready this week for the second round of the National Camogie League Division 2 second against Waterford . This match will be played in Kilmallock at 1pm on Saturday March 6th . Division 2 of the league was really opened last weekend when league leaders Wexford were held to a draw against Down at home and Waterfords campaign was dealt a deathly blow when they surrendered a six point half time lead against Galway to eventually end up losing by three points , the Deise girls showed with this display that they would be no pushovers in this league . A victory for the treaty girls this weekend would put them firmly in the driving seat for top honours in Division 2 and a swift return to Division 1 Camogie . The team has been training away and have played a number of very good challenge games .
All roads lead to Kilmallock on Saturday so be sure to get out and support your county camogie team .

Minors
Trials for the 2010 Minor panel took place on Saturday last February 27th in Rathkeale. This was followed by a challenge game on Sunday 28th against a selection from the senior team . All in all a good work out for both squads , the senior team panel will be finalised shortly with the minor squad following soon after . Phelim Macken will be looking after both teams for 2010 , assisted by James Moynihan , Toby Kavanagh , Ita Richardson and Physio Bridget Downes
U16
Our U16's under the management of Mike Murphy , Ger McNamara , Seamus Keating and Willie Hurley have finalised ther panel for the forth coming season . After trawling the county over the last number of weeks the mentors are sure they have come up with the best squad of players at U16 level for 2010.
The final trial game was held on Sunday last in LIT where our girls took on Clare in two challenge games , all potential squad members got a good run out and afterwards the lads had some very difficult decisions to make in selecting the 27 girls that would make up the 2010 panel .
Manager Mike Murphy would like to thank all the girls that came for trials and just because you might not have got the nod on this occasion the message is to keep up the good work with ye're clubs and you would never know .
The first competitive action for the county U16 girls will be away to Laois on Saturday March 13th in the U16B All-Ireland series , this will be followed by two home games , one against Offally on April 3rd and Waterford on April 10th .
U14
Our U14's will be in action this coming Sunday March 7th in a challenge game against near neighbours cork . Throw in will be at 11pm in Kilmallock .
The first competitive fixture for the county U14's will be in mid April at the Limerick inter-county blitz in Rathkeale . Well done to all the girls who have made the county U14 panel for 2010 .
Training will continue on Sunday mornings in Mick Neville Park Rathkeale . Team manager Maurice Barrett will be in touch with all the players .
Maurice Barrett and the his management team for 2010 would like to take this opportunity of thanking all players and their parents for coming along to the trials over the past two weeks. The final panel has now been selected and we hope that all players who have been selected will appreciate the opportunity of playing in their county colours as they represent Limerick in U14 Camogie competitions.
We would hope that we will be invited to, and can attend almost all of the blitzes and have two teams at each. We plan to have training on Sunday mornings at 9am each week where we do not have a blitz (excluding Easter Sunday). We may also take a break in June and July but this will be decided later. We will at all times keep you informed of any changes by text so please ensure we are made aware of any changes to phone numbers.
We had a large number of girls attend the trials for the current panel. We would ask that those fortunate to be selected make every effort to attend training sessions and games, respect all trainers, equipment and facilities, arrive on time before training and matches and most importantly make every effort to participate to the best of their ability. We would also ask that you respond to text messages when requested and also advise one of the trainers if you are not available for training or other events.
In order for the trainers to concentrate on the players and teams during blitzes we would ask for some parents to volunteer for the following ;
• First aid (two people - one for each team)
• Mothers who will assist players in dressing rooms
• People who will look after player jackets, etc, while games are in progress
• People who will look after spare hurleys, sliotars, etc, while games are in process
• Assistance with Limerick Blitz on 17th April.
Please provide your name and task(s) which you will be able to help with to any of the trainers as soon as possible so that we have a list of people who can provide this assistance.
As a result of guidance provided during the Swine Flu pandemic, we do not provide water to players during training or matches so all players are asked to bring these along themselves. We would suggest you acquire and personalise your own water bottle and place it by the pitch during training and games.
We look forward to a good year ahead and all that we ask is that we can look back on the year knowing that every player gave of their best and developed their skills in the process. Winning games will be a bonus that will result from this.
