Pro Report 2009

This was a great year for Dromcollogher/ Broadford GAA winning six titles during the year, and they are West Senior Football Championship back to back title, County Senior Football Championship back to back title, West Junior B Football Championship first since 1992, County Junior B Football Championship first since 1992 and County Intermediate Ladies Football Championship the first time ever.

We started our year with the All-Ireland Club Football Championship Semi-Final against Crossmaglen Rangers (Armagh) where we were well beaten on the day on a scoreline of 4-12 to 0-06 played in Perase Park, Longford, although we were well beaten on the day we are very proud of our players and the management team.

After this we played Nemo Rangers, in the Semi-Final of the Munster Club Football League 2008, we were defeated on a scoreline of 2-10 to 0-06 and then we defeated Newcastle West in the West Senior Football Championship Final 2008 on a scoreline of 3-9 to 1-6, Derry McCarthy was star of the day scoring 2-3 and getting the man of the match award.

West Senior Football Championship 2009
In the Quarter-Final we defeated Adare on a scoreline of 1-17 to 1-11, in the Semi-Final the first day against we drew with Newcastle West on a scoreline of 1-7 to 0-10, in the replay we won on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-8. We defeated Ballysteen in the final on a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-06, Sean Buckley got the goal in this contest to put this game to bed.

County Senior Football Championship
In the Group Stages, we defeated Monaleen in round 1 on a scoreline of 1-15 to 0-07, in round 2 we drew with St. Senan's on a scoreline of 1-12 apiece; in round 3 we defeated Hospital/ Hertbertstown on a scoreline of 3-16 to 0-05. In round 4 we defeated Ballylanders on a scoreline of 3-9 to 0-9 and in Round 5 we lost to Fr. Casey's on a scoreline 1-8 to 0-7. In the quarter final we defeated Newcastle West on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-10, Garrett Noonan and Ray Lynch scored two goals for us on the today to puts us into the semi-final against Ballysteen, we defeated Ballysteen in the semi-final on a scoreline 0-11 to 0-06.

The final was played over two days, on the first day the game was called off after 35 minutes of play with the teams on level terms 5 points apiece, it was called off due a serious injury to Thomas Cahill (Fr. Casey's) and then on the second day we won a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-7, with Garrett Noonan scoring the two winning points. In the Munster Club Football Championship Quarter-Final we lost to Kilmurry/ Ibrickane (Clare) on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-06, played down in Quilty (Clare).
West Junior B Football League
In round 1 we defeated St. Senan's on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-05, in round 2 we received a walkover from Kilcornan, in round 3 we lost to Glin on a scoreline of 1-10 to 2-04, in round 4 we lost to Newcastle West on a scoreline of 2-5 to 0-07. In the round 5 we defeated Mountcollins on a scoreline of 2-4 to 0-07; in round 6 we defeated Ballysteen on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-7. We got a walkover from Athea, this put us into the Semi-Final against Glin we lost on a scoreline of 3-4 to 0-8.

West Junior B Football Championship
In round 1 we defeated St. Kieran's on a scoreline of 0-13 to 1-04, in round 3 we lost to Newcastle West on a scoreline of 2-8 to 2-6. In round 4 we defeated Kilcornan on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-07, in round 5 we defeated Mountcollins on a scoreline of 3-15 to 0-01. In the quarter final we defeated St. Kieran's on a scoreline of 2-14 to 3-04, John O'Kelly was the star of the show scoring 8 points, in the Semi-Final we defeated Glin on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-2, with Ben scoring the goal on the day. In the Final we defeated Ballysteen, in a very one sided game on a scoring of 1-15 to 0-03, this was team effort on the day and the first since 1992.

County Junior B Football Championship
In the Quarter Final we defeated Galbally on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-10, on the night we had eight different scores. In the Semi-Final we defeated Patrickswell on a scoreline of 1-8 to 2-4, John O'Kelly scored five points on the day. We defeated Pallasgreen in the final to complete the double, on the day the score was1-9 to 2-11 Dearan Reidy scored two goals in the first half.

West Junior A Hurling League
In Round 1 we defeated Adare on a scoreline of 1-18 to 2-10, round 2 we defeated Croagh/ Kilfinny on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-6, in round 3 we received a walkover from Granagh/ Ballingarry and this put us into the final against Croagh/ Kilfinny. We won on a scoreline of 3-13 to 1-10, there was two main scores on the night and they were Jason Ryan 0-9 and Derry McCarthy 2-1.

County Junior A Hurling League
In the Semi-Final we defeated Kilmallock on a scoreline of 3-23 to 1-09, in the final we played Doon this game was played over two days, the first day no referee was appointed for the game and the game was called off. On the second day we lost a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-11.

West Junior A Hurling Championship
In round 1 we drew with Feenagh/ Kilmeedy 1-12 apiece, in round 2 we lost to Feoghanagh on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-15 and round 3 we defeated Templeglantine on a scoreline of 2-20 to 1-07. We lost the Quarter Final to St. Kieran's on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-14.

West Junior B Hurling League
Round 1 we defeated Tournafulla on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-3, in round 2 we lost to Killeedy on a scoreline of 2-15 to 1-09. Round 3 we defeated Askeaton a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-13, Round 4 we lost to Feoghanagh on a scoreline of 2-11 to 1-09.

West Junior B Hurling Championship
In round 1 we lost to St. Mary's on a scoreline of 2-14 to 1-07, round 2 we defeated Feoghanagh on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-6. In round 4 we lost to Tournafulla on a scoreline of 3-13 to 0-12, in round 5 we defeated Askeaton on a scoreline of 1-15 to 2-05. In the Quarter Final we defeated Knockaderry on a scoreline of 3-10 to 3-07, we lost the Semi-Final to Killeedy on a scoreline of 3-10 to 0-07.

U21 West B Football Championship
In the first round we defeated Ballysteen on a scoreline of 2-8 to 2-4, with Derry McCarhty scoring 1-3 and the other came goal came from Jimmy Kiely and the other scores on the day were Colin Lordan (0-3), Aidan Butler (0-1) and John Barrett (0-1). In the Quarter-Final we defeated Cappagh on a scoreline of 5-12 to 0-08, on the scores on the day were: Derry McCarthy (1-6), Timmy O'Carroll (2-1), Aidan Butler (1-1), James Hartnett (1-0), Colin Lordan (0-2) and John Ryan (0-1). In the Semi-Final we lost to St. Senan's on a scoreline of 3-11 to 0-10 on the scores on the day were: Derry McCarthy (0-6), Aidan Butler (0-3) and Colin Lordan (0-1).

U21 West B Hurling Championship
We lost to Croagh/ Kilfinny in round 1 on a scoreline of 1-16 to 1-15, the main score for us on the night was Derry McCarhty scoring (1-10), in the Losers Group we lost Feenagh/ Kilmeedy on a scoreline of 4-9 to 3-8, the scores on the night for us were: Derry McCarthy (0-7), Aidan Butler (1-0), Colin Lordan (1-0), Timmy O'Carroll (1-0) and Keith Lacey (0-1)

West Minor Football Championship
We lost to Ballysteen in Round 1 by 2-9 to 2-7, the scores on the night were: Jimmy Kiely (1-3), Daniel Collins (0-4) and Kevin Noonan (1-0), in Round 2 we defeated St. Senan's on a scoreline of 5-14 to 0-2, in Round 3 we defeated Cappagh on a scoreline 4-13 to 0-6, in Round 4 we drew with St. Kieran's on a scoreline of 1-10 to 2-07. In the Semi-Final we defeated Granagh/ Ballingarry on a scoreline of 3-6 to 0-5, this game of two halves Granagh/ Ballingarry lead at half time by 0-5 to no score, but then in the second half we scored 3-6 compared to Granagh/ Ballingarry 0-1. The scores in the second half for us were: Liam O'Shaughnessy (1-2), Daniel Collins (1-2) and Michaél Brosnan (1-1). In the final we lost to Ballysteen on a scoreline of 3-9 to 1-7, the scores on the day were: Michaél Brosnan (1-1), Daniel Collins (0-4), Kevin Quaid (0-1) and Kevin Noonan (0-1).

West Minor B Hurling Championship
We defeated St. Kieran's in Round 1 on a scoreline of 3-14 to 1-10, the main scorer on the day was Keith Lacey scoring (0-7), in round 2 we defeated St. Brendan's on a scoreline of 3-12 to 2-10, the main scorer again in this game for us was Keith Lacey scoring (2-5). In round 3 we lost to Allaughaun Gaels on a scoreline of 5-17 to 1-07, In round 4 we lost to St. Kieran's on a scoreline of 3-15 to 3-05, in round 5 we lost to St. Brendan's on a scoreline of 2-12 to 2-09 and round 6 we gave a walkover to Allaughaun Gaels.

Fundraising
Our Annual Race Night was held in Skullers Bar, Dromcollogher on Friday November 27th, a great night was had by all Eddie Noonan Broadford won the 500 prize on the night. Our Annual Church Gate Collection was held in both Dromcollogher and Broadford churches on the Weekend of September 26th and 27th, the Weekly Spin and Win draw, the Lord Mayor contest which Tommy Cregan won this year for Dromcollogher/ Broadford GAA. The above club would like to thank anybody who supported the club in way during the year.

I wish thank two people in the club that helped during the year and gave me a lot advice and guidance during the year and they are Christine McCarthy and Din O'Carroll. I wish to thank my Family Ger, Maura and Colm for their help and support during the year. I would to wish everyone within the County Limerick and beyond a Happy Christmas and New Year.

Sympathy
We had two deaths this year in the parish to two great GAA men; they were Kevin O'Donnell, Dromcollogher and Denis Law Noonan, Dromcollogher. Both Kevin and Denis Law were selectors with the Football Team here in the club that went from winning the County Junior B in 1992, winning the County Junior A 1998, winning the County Intermediate in 1999, winning the County Senior Football 2001, 2003, 2004, and Kevin was also a selector with the Junior B Footballers that that won the county Final, this year.

Hard Luck and best of Luck

To Limerick VEC Schools team and especially to our Club Players Brian Noonan, Kevin Noonan (0-1), Michéal Brosnan (0-1) and John Barrett they lost to Cork VEC on a scoreline of 4-17 to 0-08 in the Munster A Football Final they will now play in the All-Ireland B Football Championship.

Sympathy

The untimely death occurred on Sunday evening of Denis (Law) Noonan RIP. Denis was an integral part of our football team for the last two decades. He was a very popular member of the club and was always willing to give a hand where needed. He will be long remembered for his jovial comments and his musical ability. Ar dehis De go raibh a hanam Dilis. The club would to extend its deepest sympathy to his brothers Pat, George and his sisters Mary, Maudie, to his nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
