CITY/EAST MINOR HURLING CíSHIP ROUND 3
BALLYBROWN 3-05 KILLULTA GAELS 3-15.
After a break for exams the Minor Hurling CíShip resumed last Friday night with a bang as we faced our local rivals Ballybrown in the old pitch, Clarina. While a match of this standard should have been played on the new pitch we managed to make space in the tight confines and come away with a decent victory.
Ballybrown settled first and got their first score of a goal within the first 2 minutes and a second to follow shortly after >from a penalty but we were never far from their score due to well taken frees from Willie Griffin, seven in the first half. But after 15 mins Killulta had taken control all over the pitch from the backs to midfield to the forwards with the midfield players Darren Walsh, Peter Nash, Barry OíConnell, Brian Howard, were first to the ball, winning the puck outs.
We had a commanding lead at half time of 1-12 to 2-1 as we totally overran our opponents and the message was clear from the management not to let up. The second half was tighter, score wise, but Killulta had the majority of the possession for the remainder of the game, taking their scores at will and defending well. There was some clever play from the team such as one instance was where Willie had the ball and could possibly have scored a point but spotted Robert McKeogh free and with quick thinking flicked the ball to bob who scored an excellent goal.
Next up we travel to Cappamore on Friday July 10th, with the first round match against St. Patricks still to be refixed.
Team: Steven Hodnett, Edmund Nunan, David Keating, Eoin OíBrien, Brian Howard, Shane OíBrien, Darren Walsh, Peter Nash(0-1), Barry OíConnell(0-2), Chris McMahon (0-1), Daniel Hannon, Daniel Maher, Robert McKeogh(1-0), William Griffin(1-11; 1-0 penalty, 0-7 frees 0-2 ë65s). Subs used: John Sheehan for Edmund Nunan, Niall OíBrien (1-0) for Daniel Maher, Johnny Nash blood sub for Barry OíConnell.
Referee: John Maher (Kilcornan).
GIRLS FOOTBALL BLITZ
Our young members of Killulta ladies football took part in an u10 blitz on Thursday 26th in Adare. Even though we did not win the girls enjoyed their evening and made new friends from Ahane, Mungret and of course Adare who we thank for inviting us to take part. Our captain for the night was Laura Sheahan, who will be emigrating shortly to San Francisco and Killulta Gaels wish her bon voyage and there will always be a place for her in Killulta Ladies Football. Also in the team on the night were Alison Ryan, Roisin McGregor, and Chloe Corbett who scored a great point in our match against Mungret, Jane Fitzgerald, Sorcha Meehan and Elise Pierce. Each of the girls were a credit to the club as they played their hearts out right to the end of the matches. There maybe other blitz throughout the summer but the year is nearly at a close for under age. Geraldine & Agnes would like to thank all the trainers and parents for all their support through out the year and hope to have the girls back training early 2010, the adult ladies team are just about to start their championship and if there any more players out there wanting to join please contact Agnes OíDowd 086-8761457 or Geraldine McMahon 086-1646163. As you can imagine there are costs involved with running the ladies football in the parish and both Pallaskenry and Kildimo GAA clubs have been financially supportive but we need to raise funds to keep the club going and we are having a church gate collection this weekend 4th and 5th July in both churches and we are appealing to the parishís generosity.
County U16 Hurling C'Ship Round 3
Dromcollogher/Broadford 4-06 Killulta Gaels 3-12.
Killulta Gaels had a hard fought but deserving 3 point win over Dromcollogher/Broadford in round 3 of this yearís county under 16 hurling competition. Killulta lead at the interval by 8 points thanks mainly to 3 first half goals from Barry O'Connell (a fabulous individual effort, long solo run and great shot), Rory O'Donnell and Johnny Nash.
Dromcollogher/Broadford fought back in the second half and also scored 3 goals but our defence were resolute and disciplined in preventing further scores and thanks to some great point scoring from Martin Nunan we held on to take maximum points. Final Score: Killulta Gaels 3:12 Dromcollogher/Broadford 4:6.

County U16 Hurling C'Ship Round 4
St Kierans 3-10 Killulta Gaels 0-6
An understrength Killulta Under 16 hurling team travelled to Coolcappagh on Monday evening the 29th hoping to continue on last weeks form. Unfortunately, it became clear very quickly that this physically stronger side from Ardagh were going to be a very tough proposition. Within 10 minutes the score was 1-2 to 0-2 in our opponentsí favour - both our points having come from Johnny Nash. We battled hard from there to halftime, Johnny adding another point and Niall OíBrien with 2 well taken frees. This left the score at halftime at 5 points to 1-5.
The hope for the new half was for a better all round performance, but this failed to materialise and though we tried hard we could not work the sliotar into scoring positions as we lacked the purposefulness displayed in our previous two outings. As the half progressed to a close, St Kierans increased their domination and their lead.
Team and scorers: Kevin OíConnell, Feilim OíLeary, John Sheahan, Paul Clarke, Cathal McCarthy, Ciar·n OíBrien, Miche·l Keating, Tony McCarthy, Niall OíBrien (0-2), Niall Madden, Darragh Walsh, Johnny Nash (0-3), Tommy Kennedy (0-1), Rory OíDonnell, Dean Corrigan. Subs: Jonathan McHale and Jack OíKeeffe.
