Claughaun GAA Club Notes
Week ending June 26th 2009
A Cháirde,
It was with deep regret that Claughaun GAA Club learned of the death this week of Johnny Hannan. One of the most familiar faces at the Childers Road grounds, Johnny was the holder of two County senior hurling medals. He was corner-back on the Claughaun teams that won the coveted Daly Cup in consecutive years, 1957 and 1958, following upon a County minor title in 1954. His brothers Jimmy (R.I.P) (goalkeeper on the '57 side) and Eamonn also donned the famous hoops with distinction. In later years, Johnny served the club in an administrative capacity. He was a committee member for many years, and held executive office as treasurer on numerous occasions. Claughaun GAA expresses its sincerest condolences to Johnny's wife Marie, his sons Liam, Damien and Eoghan, his daughters Siobhan, Marguerite and Leola, brother Eamonn, sisters Anne, Mary, Margaret and Katha. Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam dílis.
Having dominated the opening half of our All-County hurling league tie with Knockainey, Claughaun's senior hurlers were very disappointed to end up on the wrong side of a 5-8 to 1-11 scoreline. The southern side's final tally was embellished by Claughaun's concession of four soft goals at the start of the second half. There is no confirmation yet as to when our senior hurling championship game against Emmets will go ahead, owing to the inter-county championship fixtures. Our junior hurlers were unlucky to lose out to Patrickswell in the City junior B league final on Sunday evening last. The 'Well ran out winners by six, 4-9 to 1-12, but Claughaun still advance to the county quarter-final stage of the competition. Date & Venue of this fixture will be available on our club website, www.claughaun.limerick.gaa.ie, once they are confirmed.
Fixtures -Minor Premier County hurling championship against Newcastlewest, away, this Friday evening (26th) at 7.45 p.m.
