December 12, 2008
The Munster Council have designated Rathkeal's Mick Neville Park as its new 'centre of excellence'.
The Limerick venue is set for a EUR2,000,000 upgrade to become the regional 'centre of excellence', and it was confirmed at last Tuesday night's Annual Convention of the Limerick GAA that Croke Park are set to fund the venture, which comes as part of the package that saw finance raised from the opening of Croke Park to the IRFU and FAI.
The facilities are to be equipped with two new all-weather pitches, one of which is to be sand-based and the other with a synthetic surface, dressing rooms and a stand.
Work is set to begin as early as the New Year, and it was also confirmed at the meeting that Limerick's Gaelic Grounds has received planning permission for flood-lighting.
