West Junior-B Hurling Final ends in a draw Close Encounter ends in stalemate. In a close and tense game played in front of a large crowd of supporters, our Junior Hurlers played out an entertaining draw with near neighbours Granagh/Ballingarry to remain as West Junior-B Champions for at least another week. The game, played in Knockaderry on Friday evening, was a very low scoring affair, finishing on a scoreline of 0-7 each. In the first half we dominated proceedings but failed to record our dominance on the scoreboard spurning several chances from frees and open play. Our tally of nine wides in the first half speaks volumes. After our dominance in play, we were ahead at the break only by the narrowest of margins on a scoreline of 0-4 to 0-3. All our first half scores were from placed balls, two frees from Mark Sullivan and a free and a 65 from Pat Madden. Granagh/Ballingarry's three points came from their mid-field pairing a point from play by Darragh O'Grady a followed by a pair from Patrick Carroll.(one from a free and one from play). 2nd Half On the resumption, Granagh Ballingarry come more into the game and three pointed frees from their Patrick Carroll saw them go into a two point lead. A point from play by Pat Madden was quickly answered by another point from play by the Knockfierna men's Patrick Carroll to maintain the two point gap. However we kept trying and a free from Mark O'Sullivan brought us to within one point. As time as ticking away, Sean O'Shea collected a clearance before splitting the posts to bring the game level. The game was dominated by the defences on both sides. We were best served by all 7 backs & goalie while at mid-field, Damien Quaid had a great opening half. Up front, we found chances difficlult to come by and our lack of scoring power needs to be addressed by management and players alike. All told, I think that both sides were happy with the draw and both will look forward to the replay. Positives from St Mary's view point were the display by our backs & goalie who kept the Granagh/Ballingarry forwards scoreless from play This coupled with the overall never-say-die attitude of all players augers well for the replay. Team & Scorers: Kevin O'Shea, Patrick Sheahan, Kieran O'Donovan, Brian Duggan, Gary Enright, Keith Harnett, Paul Hogan, Eoghan O'Connor, Damien Quaid, Sean O'Shea, John Enright, Mark O'Sullivan, Mike O'Sullivan, Pat Madden, Brian Byrnes. County Bord Development plans The county Bord presented their plans for the future development of the GAA in Limerick at a well attended meeting in the south Court Hotel on Tuesday night of last week. If passed, these plans will have consequences for our club na nOg, particularly at underage level, so, as a club we need to discuss them in detail. Copies of the plan are available from Pat Sheahan or Brian Wilmott. All underage managers, selectors, and parents are invited to read the plans and attend the club meeting on Thursday night to discuss same. Club Meeting An important club meeting will be held in Rathkeale House hotel on Thursday night at 9.00pm sharp. All club members are requested to attend Limerick Co. Teams Commiserations to Limerick Intermediate Hurlers on losing the All-Ireland Final in Semple Stadium last Saturday. To go so far this year was a great achievement for Jerry Molyneaux and his troupe and the final was enjoyed by a sizable crowd of local supporters. Well done to Tom Condon of Knockaderry GAA on playing so well in the Final. Limerick U16 Hurlers were also playing competitive games in Tipperary last Saturday and unfortunately did not progress to the final stages. St. Mary's was represented by the ever-versatile Seán Sheahan of Ballyallinan. Well done Seán. Limerick GAA Development Draw The august draw took place in Tommy Micks Bar Mountcollins last Friday night. Unfortunately we had no winner on the night. The September draw will be held on Friday 26th Sept in Na Piarsaigh GAA clubhouse. Sympathy We extend our sympathy to the Jones' family on the death of Pat-Joe who died recently.
