City GAA Board Notes

September 02, 2008
The highlight of last weekend fixtures was in the Morrison's Bar & Lounge Ballinsimon Road sponsored City senior football championship final those who was there witness by far the best City senior football final in many years when senior side Monaleen had to take this game to extra time to get over a determined intermediate side of St. Patrick's to win their second title in a row. Monaleen who just a week ago survived the relegation county semi final came out with all guns firing to finish their season on a high note but to their surprise the intermediate side from Rhebogue St. Patrick's really put it up to their neighbours on the night. Monaleen lead at the break by a single point 1-04 to 0-06 St. Patrick's in the second half lifted their game and were three points clear going into to injury time when Monaleen were awarded a 13 mitre free up came Mauris Gavin and surprise not only him shelf but everyone else when he hit the net to but the game into extra time. In extra time St. Patrick's gave away four score able frees which, in the end cost them the City title but in a very entertaining game Monaleen ran out winners by two points 2-13 to 0-17 Those who played well for the winners were John Paul Stokes, Brien Geary, Peter Russell and Gavin Manifold and for St. Patrick's Tony Quigley, John Mullane, Niall Phelan, Cian Hanrahan, Patrick Mullins and Niall McNamara.
