Patrickswell GAA Notes

September 01, 2008
Patrickswell edged out Na Piarsaigh in a very competitive City Under 21 championship game.  The teams were evenly matched for the opening fifteen minutes and scored three points apiece.  As the half progressed, Patrickswell increased the attacking tempo and took charge of the game.  They were rewarded with four additional points and a close-range goal just before the interval.  The half-time score was 1-7 to 0-5. The second half began with a spirited recovery by Na Piarsaigh.  They scored two points and cut the deficit to a single goal.  Patrickswell were stirred into action and slotted over three points of their own.  A six point lead seemed unassailable, but Na Piarsaigh added four unanswered points and crept within two scores.  The Well were under severe pressure and responded with two precious points to keep the visitors at arm's length.  With ten minutes on the clock, Na Piarsaigh stunned Patrickswell with a goal and point.  The scores were level and tension was high as injury time started.  Thankfully, the Well kept their composure and two late points secured a narrow 1-14 to 1-12 victory. The Under 13 hurlers beat Monaleen by 2-8 to 1-4 in Division A of the Brother Burke Cup.  The Under 13 footballers lost to Ballybrown by 2-3 to 2-1 in City Division B.  The Under 15 hurlers lost to Na Piarsaigh by 3-8 to 0-6 in Division A of the Fr. McNamee Cup.  The Under 16 hurlers have conceded the final two matches of the Cube Printing League to Ahane and Adare.                 A most enjoyable outing was had by all at the recent Ballybrown Under 8 blitz. Patrickswell gave a good account of themselves in their three matches against their opponents (Crecora, Kildimo & Ballybrown). Among the highlights were an acrobatic save by Adam Carrig in the match against Kildimo and a great goal scored by Darren O'Flaherty against Ballybrown. The squad was Adam Carrig, Gavin Carey, Darren O'Flaherty, Kyle McCarthy, Jordan McCarthy, Niall Kerins, Paul Lynch, P.J. Foley, Paul Kelly, Martin Murray, Neal Byrnes, Calvin Carroll, Clive Kirby, Shane Hannon, Cormac Kerins. All participants received a medal and refreshments, courtesy of our hosts. Well done lads, and keep practicing!
