Carey cites Maldini as an inspiration
August 30, 2008
Limerick hurling legend Ciaran Carey has cited Italian soccer great Paolo Maldini as an inspiration ahead of his participation in the All-Ireland intermediate hurling final.
Carey, 38, will line out for the Shannonsiders against Kilkenny in Thurles but only after declining an initial approach to play for his county by team-manager Gerry Molyneaux.
"I'm still playing senior with the club (Patrickswell) and the fitness was always quite good and I never put on weight," said Carey.
"Look at Paolo Maldini with Milan at 40 years of age. If the mind and the body are right, you can go for it."
