St. Patrick's Club Notes

August 26, 2008
On Saturday last our junior hurlers travelled to Caherdavin to play Crecora in this year's junior hurling championship. The match was played in terrible conditions at the end of the hour we were victors by 2 points. This was a game of two halves Crecora led at the break by 3.04 to 0.05 .We were a different side in the second period we kept Crecora scoreless from play and all they scored was 2 points from frees. We on the other hand eat into Crecora lead and they had no answer to the strong runs of Niall Phelan which resulted in frees after frees for us. Brendan Mullins was on song with his free taking and punished Crecora each time. With ten minutes remaining Niall (happy) Phelan raised a green flag for us and we finished the stronger team. Both Crecora and ourselves should be applauded for a entertaining hours hurling in those conditions. On the night we had fine performances from Kieran Dore, Mark Phelan and Tony Quigley in defence, Kevin Maher and Barry O Doherty who put in a hard hours work in the middle of the field and up front Gearoid Phelan, Patrick Mullins Padraig Reale and Niall Phelan were outstanding. We lined out as follows Christan Meehan, Kieran Dore, Mark Phelan, Colm O Brien, Jim Henniger, Wayne Cronin (0-01) Tony Quigley, Kevin Maher (captain) Barry O Doherty, Gearoid Phelan, Niall Phelan (1-00) Brendan Mullins (0-07) Padraig Reale (0-02) Patrick Mullins (0-04) and Paul Doherty. Subs Darragh Cronin, Sean Ryan, Joe Markham and David Sheehan. On this Thursday evening our minor footballers will travel across to Mungret to take on the home side in the premier minor football championship at 6.45 a win on this night will put us into the semi final of the championship and will keep us in line as last year when we reach the final so best of luck to the panel of players and the management team. Our under 13 footballers are away to Pallaskenry on this Saturday evening at 3pm while our under 15footballers are home to Monaleen on Monday evening at 7pm. It's great to see our intermediate footballers top their group in the championship on scoring difference, but are equal on points with Croom. We are to play Croom in a playoff on this weekend to see who will go forward to the semi finals and were the losers go into the quarter finals. Our under 12 footballers who are in the County semi finals are training away every Friday evening at 6.30 at the club field with Tony Malone and Peter Sheehan.
