Contrary to reports, Ciaran Carey is to remain as Patrickswell hurling manager for the coming year.

It was reported earlier this month that the Limerick legend was departing the 'Well hotseat, less than three months after guiding them to their first Daly Cup since 2016, but he has now confirmed to Sporting Limerick that he staying at the helm for a second season.

"I gave it a lot of thought," said Carey, who is in his second stint as manager of his home club.

"When you're involved, regardless of the status of team you're given the honour of managing, to do it to the fullness of your ability, you have to be totally and fully committed and it takes a lot of time. When I think of the 'Well's journey last year, it was 10 months and that's a fair commitment so it took me a while at the end of that process (to make up my mind)

"But we have a nice young squad, we did pretty well last year and we've a few kids coming up, so I said it would be a nice challenge for the season so I committed for another year.

"It's extra special when you're involved with a club you played with."

The former Kerry boss had been linked with the vacant Galway manager's post before it was filled by fellow Limerick man Shane O'Neill in November.
