St Patricks club notes

County  Intermediate Hurling Championship:

St Patricks 2 12 DromcollogherBroadford 1 13

Our Intermediate Hurlers staged a remarkable recovery  for the second week running to beat  Dromcollogher/ Broadford in our  championship game on  Saturday evening.

Trailing by  seven points  to no score after  a very poor start, we had our first score of the game in the 22nd minute  after numerous missed scoring opportunities when Calvin Moran pointed from play.

Dromcollogher/Broadford then rose a green flag when a long range free deflected in for a goal. Gearoid Hegarty pointed from play with  the last action of a forgettable half for St Patrick's to leave Dromcollogher/Broadford leading by 1 8 to 2pts at half time.

Saints management  moved Jason  Mullins to full forward and Niall Phelan to midfield at half time and this was to work a treat with Jason scoring 1 2 and he was to give the Dromcollogher defence a torrid time.Niall and John Mullane got a firm grip around the  middle and our half back line of Wayne Cronin, Brendan Mullins and Kevin Maher were  outstanding in the second half.Calvin Moran had a dream second half scoring 1 5, four points from frees and a brilliant goal,to put us right back in the game as  Dromcollogher led  1 10 to 1 7.

Jason Mullins then goaled to level the game with ten minutes remaining, turning his marker and  finishing to net for a superb goal.

A monster  Wayne Cronin point and a  Calvin Moran free had us two up entering the closing stages, but Dromcollogher

were to rally and were to get next three scores to move a point clear. In  the final minutes  a Calvin Moran free and two brilliant Jason Mullins points saw us win by two points after a  cracking team performance.

Well done to all for their efforts, from the likes of young Nathan Shaughnessy and Jack Greenwod in the full back line who were marshalled by Gearoid Phelan and David Geary  to the older warriors like Michael Geary,Colin Earls and Padraig Reals in the forwards, the second half fight back  was a joy for all who were present.

U14 Football:

Our U14s made the long trip to Mountcollins on Thursday and were  very unlucky to be on the losing side by four points in the end after a superb effort.

Stephen O Neill, Alex Collopy and Matthew Hickey defended with great gusto throughout, Jake Kavanagh and James Murphy had huge games around the middle and in attack Ronan Kidney,Jamie Quigley,Darragh Quinn and Christopher Hickey did very well throughout. Thanks to all the panel for their efforts tonight and the parents who helped with transport. Newcastlewest  next Wednesday.

Girls Football:

U12

St Patrick's U12 girls played Ahane in Rhebogue. It was a beautiful evening for the sizable crowd to enjoy the football on display. The girls served up some fantastic football and the action was non stop. Well done to Paul, Barry and all the girls. Training continues every Tuesday at 6.30, new players are always welcome.

U14

St Pat's u14s girls were in action this week away to Murroe Boher. This was the first of their competitive matches this season. It took a few minutes for them to get into their rhythm, but still managed to get on the score board. This was a high scoring game and the girls showed their skills getting some fabulous team scores and some superb individual ones. It was a credit to the team that there were multiple scorers. We were leading with 5 minutes to go, but conceded some soft scores and alas didn't come away with what would have been a deserved win. Well done to the whole team and coaches Sammi Chang & Maria Sheehan.
