County Senior Football League Round 2:

St. Kieran’s 2.6 Rathkeale 0.8

The senior footballers made it two wins from two on Saturday evening last when they saw off the challenge of Rathkeale in round 2 of the county league in Coolcappagh. Following the opening two rounds of county championship at senior and intermediate level both sides were without the services of a number of first team regulars due to injury but that gave an opportunity to players who didn’t see game time in either county championship game to stake a claim for the latter rounds. We played some excellent passages of football throughout the game in tough playing conditions which was very encouraging given the disappointment of the loss to Newcastlewest the week previous. With the county championship now going into the summer break due to intercounty activity we look forward to a number of county league and west championship games which will act as vital preparation for the remainder of the county championship.

 

West Junior ‘A’ Hurling League Semi Final:

St. Kieran’s 0.13 Croagh/Kilfinny 1.17

The junior hurlers got their 2019 campaign underway on Wednesday evening last when they made the short journey to the Bog Garden, Rathkeale for the West Junior Hurling league encounter with Croagh/Kilfinny. Despite the loss the manner of the performance was very encouraging and with a number of first team regulars to come back into the side before our opening game of the West Championship against Adare there is plenty to be positive about with a number of younger players having been added to the panel. It was evident on Wednesday evening that Croagh, backboned by many of their u21 players who won the West U21 A championship in recent weeks were a bit sharper but with a number of more weeks training in preparation for our opening championship game should prove extremely beneficial.

County Premier Minor Football Championship Round 1:

St. Kieran’s 3.8 St. Patrick’s 1.11

The minor footballers welcomed St. Patrick’s to Coolcappagh on Thursday evening last for the opening round of the County premier championship. Being our only game in advance of the state examinations victory on Thursday was vital if we are to stand any chance of progression into the latter stages of what is an ultra-competitive championship where two years ago at u16 level we contested the county final, losing out to Fr. Casey’s. Beginning the game, the better of the two sides we quickly raced into a 2.3 to 0.1 lead in the opening half, putting together some excellent passages of play to put us in a commanding position. In truth we could well have been further ahead were it not for some wayward shooting on our part in front of goal and the goalkeeping exploits of the St. Pats keeper. The Rhebogue men fought their way back into the game in the second half and narrowed the gap and as the game drew to a conclusion it hung in the balance. Thankfully we can away with the all-important win thanks in no small part to the efforts of Aaron O’ Connor at full-forward, scoring 1.1, Shane Murphy, Eoin McEnery and Aidan Brouder in the full back line, Michael Shanahan at midfield and Dylan Moloney up front.

Munster Minor Football Championship:

Best wishes to Daniel Geraghty who is part of the Limerick minor football panel who travel to Fraher Field, Dungarvan this evening for round 2 of the Munster Championship. Both sides go into the game off the back of opening round losses to Clare and Tipperary respectively and if they are to stand any chance of progression to phase two of the championship victory this evening is essential.
