The Galbally Intermediate Footballers hosted neighbours and fellow parishioners Aherlow Gaels in the Scanlon Cup on Sunday night last losing out narrowly on a scoreline of 0-15 to 1-10. It was an excellent occasion in memory of the late Mick Scanlon. The Scanlon name has long since departed Galbally GAA, but lives on in the black and white jersey through the younger generation of Galbally players with present day relatives such as Eoin O Mahony of the Limerick minor hurling team and his first cousins, Jamie Morrissey and Peter Morrissey. Club Stalwart Tim Ryan, also a present day relative of the Scanlon family, delivered an excellent oration on the history of the cup and on his memories of Galbally winning a South Title with the likes of John Cullen and Mick Scanlon. The team was: Ger Ryan, Tom Davern (Capt), Tony Henebry, Frank Cussen, Mark Quinlan, Liam Casey, Eoin Bourke, John Kearns, James Cummins, Jamie Morrissey, Ger Quinlan, Jacko Mullane, Pat Byrnes, Jack Donovan, Gary McCarthy. Subs: Dave Cussen, Kevin Denihan, Jonathan Scully
