The Late Catherine Lynch Carrick-on-Shannon and all connected with St Mary's Kiltoghert GAA Club were plunged into sadness following the tragic death of Catherine Lynch on Monday last. Catherine was well known in GAA circles for her long association with St Mary's and was a member of the panel which defeated Glencar/ Manorhamilton in the Intermediate B Championship last November. Paying tribute to Catherine who was 41 years of age, Bernie Glancy, Committee member with St Mary's said that she was a main cog in the wheel. You could always count on her, even in the early stages when there would be only seven or nine players showing up for training. she was a great athlete and a very skilled player and talented player and the younger players learned a lot form her.î Catherine was a member of St Mary's since the formation of the ladies team in 2001 but had also previously been involved in the ladies football in Carrick-on-Shannon in the years prior to the official establishment of that team. Bernie paid tribute to her as a forward who was always sure to get you a few points and even this year played in goal for the club. Her dedication to the club extended to Saturday nights when she would be out selling lotto tickets and in the past even managed the U-12 team. Bernie added that what will be missed the most is the air of fun she brought to the dressing room. Catherine's body was recovered from the River Shannon in the early hours of Monday morning close to the Rowing Club. Catherine, who lived in St Patrick's Park, is survived by her husband John, her son James, mother Norie, sisters Mary and Teresa and brothers Vincent, Freddie and John, and extended family and large circle of friends.
