O'Riordan, Tommy

The Late Tommy O'Riordan The week leading up to Christmas was rather a sad one for Leitrim GAA in that three of its best known personalities passed away. Firstly, Hubert Reynolds, then Tony McGowan and finally Tommy O'Riordan, a man who gave so much to Leitrim GAA over a period of many years. A native of County Limerick, Tommy came to work and live in Leitrim in the late 1940's and from that up until the early seventies, he was actively involved in Leitrim GAA both on and off the field. Tommy was Secretary of the County Board from 1953 to 1971 when he was succeeded by Tony McGowan. He was later to become President of the Leitrim County Board from 1971 to 1984. Tommy was a 'dual star' playing Hurling and Football for St. Mary's and Leitrim for many years, winning a Senior Football Medal with his Club in 1958 as well as a number of "small ball" ones. Tommy was married to Lily Reynolds, a sister of late Hubert, who was a star Camogie player herself. To all his family and friends we extend our deepest sympathy.
