McGovern, Paddy Joe

July 13, 2007
The Late Paddy Joe McGovern We were all saddened to hear of the death of Paddy Joe McGovern. Paddy Joe, who played and won championships in Aughavas in the forties, fifties and sixties, played midfield, was a fearless player and was known for his high fielding and total commitment to the team. He was a also a hard working farmer and obliging neighbour and was always there if needed. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. As a mark of respect to the late Paddy Joe, the Division 5 match and the intermediate challenge were postponed on Friday evening. Players past and present formed a guard of Honour from the football pitch to the Church at his removal and carried his coffin from the Church to the graveyard on Saturday. To his brothers James, Tom, Tony and Gerry and his Sisters Bridget and Maureen, We extend our deepest sympathy. Of course the McGovern brothers sponsored Leitrim in the nineties and are the main sponsors of the Aughavas GAA club. A minutes silence was observed at the Leitrim/Donegal game on Saturday evening and the Aughavas/Sean O'Heslin's game on Sunday. Paddy Joe who was a great supporter of Aughavas and Leitrim will be sadly missed by all and especially your neighbours. A dheis de go raibh anainn de. Courtesy of the Leinster Observer 13 July 2007
