McGovern, Paddy Joe

Death of Mr Paddy Joe McGovern There is widespread regret at the death of Mr. Paddy Joe McGovern, Bundarragh, Aughavas at the Laurel Lodge Nursing Home following a brief illness. Paddy Joe, as he was popularly known was a hardworking man all his life, but also had time to help a neighbour in need and his advice when called on was much appreciated. He was a well known farmer at Carrigallen Mart and had no trouble in selling his excellent cattle. He also did trojan work for his parish. In his young days he took a great interest in drama and was a member of the famous Corriga Players for many years and was also a playing member of the Aughavas Senior football team and won many medals for his club. He also was a star player on the Leitrim football team for many years and played a gentleman's part on and off the field of play, both for his club or county. After his retirement from football he became a selector and was also a first class referee for many years. Indeed the area is much the poorer at his passing. He was pre-deceased by his wife Rosaleen some years ago. Sympathy is extended to brothers Jack, Tony, Gerard, James, Tom, also sisters Brigid and Maureen. The removal of remains had funeral took place following concelebrated mass in Saint Josephs Church, Aughavas where Very Reverend Father Faughnan - Parish Priest officiated.
