The late Dermot Gannon The town of Ballinamore and surrounding areas were deeply saddened at the premature death of 32 year old Dermot Gannon. Dermot from Main Street, Ballinamore lost his brave battle with illness on Friday, January 12th, 2007. Dermot played underage football and his family have strong GAA ties with the Sean O'Heslins club. He was the grandson of the late Tom Gannon who captained Leitrim to it's first Senior Connacht title in 1927. Dermot was a beloved teacher at Mary Mother of Hope NS, Littlepace, Clonee. His funeral took place to a packed out congregation at St Patricks Church on Sunday, January 21st, 2007. Donations by mourners were directed to the Bone Marrow for Leukemia Trust. Dermot will be sadly missed by his parents, Dermot and Bridie, his brother Barry and sisters Grainne and Dervilla, all his family and friends, teaching colleagues, pupils and all who knew him.
