Curran, Peter

September 08, 2006
The late Peter Curran There was total shock and sadness when we heard of the sudden death of Peter Curran at his home in Corriga. Peter played with Aughavas as a corner-back in the eighties and nineties and won various Intermediate and Junior Championships and League medals. He was fearless corner back and any forward who played on him knew they were playing during and after the game, as he was a tight, tough marker. In the later years, he played on the Division 5 team and up to lately he was only a phone call away when at times numbers were scarce and he never let us down. Peter was also a great charity worker and climbed Croagh Patrick every year and was always one of the first to the top and raised money for different charities. The large crowd at his removal and funeral showed the popularity of Peter and the Curran family. The GAA Club held a guard of honour at his removal. Due to the death of Peter, the under 12 game was cancelled as his brother Anthony is involved with these young lads. Also, a minutes silence was observed at the Intermediate championship match on between Aughavas and Aughnasheelin. To his heart-broken brothers Anthony and Sean, sister-in-law Ellen and all the relatives and friends, we extend our deepest sympathy. A Dheis de go raibh Anaim Di.
