Bandon, Terry

The late Terry Bardon It was with a sense of personal sadness that I heard of the death of Terry Bardon, Carraghatowney, Drumreilly. Terry worked for 10 years as a school bus driver before joining Leitrim Co. Council with whom he worked for twenty years and just retiring over two years ago. In his youth Terry played on the Aughavas team of 1957 which won the County Leitrim Minor and League Championship of that year, surprisingly being the first Aughavas minor team to carry out this achievement. Surprisingly because at that time Aughavas was steeped in the Annals of Leitrim Senior Football yet the minor title had always eluded them. In 1956 he played minor football with Aughoo and from 1955 to 1960 he played with Aughoo Rangers, a kind of crossroads club taking in parts of Drumreilly, Fenagh, Ballinamore and Aughavas. With the Aughoo minor team of 1956 he played alongside the late Jerome Dinnenhy and Pat O'Bryne. Terry later played with Fenagh and Drumreilly and it was with this latter team that he finished his playing career. Terry had other sporting interests not least being darts and he had many trophies with Harry Fay's team in Ballinamore. He also loved card playing an excelled at 25 and poker. Terry was predeceased by his brothers Tom and Frank and is survived by his wife Molly, brother Michael and John Joe and sisters Rose Kelly and Mary Neeson. Ar dheis laimh De go raibh an anam.
