The Late James Henry Gill There was much sadness in Leitrim at news of the death of one of the county's most renowned footballers, James Henry Gill, who died in Charing Cross Hospital, London following a short illness in his 81st year. One of the county's most renowned footballers in his time. James Henry was formerly a native of Rossan, Carrigallen who emigrated to Fulham, South West London. He was a star member of the Aughavas team that won the Leitrim GAA Championship in 1949 and was a playing member of the Leitrim Senior Football team who defeated Galway in the Connacht championship in 1949. He played also for many years for his adopted Tara GFC following emigrating to London and also represented the Irish army during his service with them. Sympathy is extended to his wife Madge, sons John and James and four grandchildren in London. He will always be fondly remembered by his many friends and family as a courageous man who battled through serious illness in his life. His funeral took place in London. May he RIP.
