Mulloy, Lorcan

June 30, 2004
Lorcan Mulloy Lorcan Mulloy grew up in a beautiful valley near the hill of Sheemore and within its confines he met his untimely death. Here nature was at its fullest expression and his young life just fully blossomed having turned 21, the age we all long to stay at. The month of May in beautiful sunshine in a rural setting is hard to describe but when it cushions a terrible tragedy like this then something else is called for. When grief numbs us we call on inner strengths. The art of friendship and neighbourliness becomes something else. People rally in silence or tears. The mystery of life is beyond words and the consolation though in human form is from a higher plain. Life is a very precious and beautiful gift. We try now to honour his memory. I know his family have many fine memories of Lorcan that they could relate to you through time but for now I would like to recall some recent events. I recall with pride the support and comfort that Lorcan was to the Whitney family in their time of bereavement. Quietly in the background he was a practical tower of strength and a credit to the family and club. The Leitrim Gaels club was to be the window to watch the creative and dedicated talents of his young life. It was Lorcan that Vincent, his father, had in mind when he joined the magnificent seven in the creation of the new club. The efforts of them both cannot be highlighted enough and now in sadness we pay tribute to their service. We have had too many sad days but know that those gone before us have a far higher view of our progress and don't have to pay to watch us. We can only find new resolve from their precious memory. He was a creative worker too and had recently embraced computer skills in Mohill. He will be missed there and in Gortletteragh as well as Farnagh, his home on earth. Vincent and Margaret can take heart from the other members of their family and the warm presence of Kate in the sad lonely days that is theirs for now. Local community can now be a support to the two families that are affected by this terrible tragedy. May they rest in peace. Courtesy of the Leitrim Observer June 2004
