The Late Billy Grimes The sudden death of Billy Grimes, 3 Cappaneale Birr, occurred on June 28th last in the Regional Hospital, Tullamore. Aged 70 years, Billy was a native of Errill. He was born on the 24th of December 1933, the eldest son of Catherine and Tom Grimes, Park, Errill. He was educated in Ballyfin and St. Bernadette's Errill. Billy married Joan Egan in 1960 and they had five children, Tom, Joe, Mary, Liam and Bernard. In his working life he worked in Glennons, Dublin, Connors and Bord na Mona until he retired 15 years ago. He hurled for Errill Schoolboys and Leinster Schools (Ballyfin) and later hurled senior with Birr, the Number Ones. He was also a very good athlete and specialised in the High Jump. He was a prominent member of Birr GAA, was a Committee member, selector and steward for the Leinster Council and Birr. He enjoyed following Birr, Offaly and his native Laois and the Birr flag was draped over his coffin at his Funeral. Billy enjoyed a pint and everyone enjoyed the banter and chat with him. His remains were removed from his home to St Brendan's Church, Birr where they were received by Very Rev. John Canon Shalloo and following Funeral Mass the next day he was buried in Clonoghill Cemetery. Deepest sympathy is extended to his wife, Joan, sons, Tom, Joe, Liam, Bernard, daughter, Mary, brother, Tommy (France), sister, Anne (England), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
