A Leitrim club have pleaded with the Connacht GAA Council to allow them play in the provincial junior club football championship.

As the only eligible club in the junior grade in Leitrim, the county board nominated Aughavas to represent the county in the Connacht club JFC.

The Leitrim junior 'A' final is due to be played between Aughavas and Sean O'Heslin's on the October Bank Holiday weekend.

However, rumours circulated that the club had given their provincial club championship opponents Mayo's Louisburgh a walkover.

Aughavas officials have strongly denied this and their chairman Colm Moran confirmed this to the Leitrim Observer.

"We never conceded the game, we said we were not playing a Connacht championship until the Leitrim junior championship was completed," said Moran.

"The county final was due to be played on October 16th, according to the Leitrim Master Fixture Plan with the Connacht game next weekend but there was a three-way play-off to decide placings."

He added: "I would ask the Connacht Council to give us the chance to play in the competition but we would like to play a county final before playing Connacht and we just wanted people to know that Aughavas are not at fault here."
