Leitrim relinquish grip on Connacht MFL title

April 09, 2015

Leitrim's defence of the Connacht minor football league has come up marginally short.

Having won the crown in such impressive fashion last year, they set about the task of retaining the title in determined fashion but last weekend's narrow 3-9 to 2-7 defeat to Mayo at Ballaghaderreen means they cannot now go on to collect the silverware for a second successive season.

With one round of games remaining, Leitrim have four points, while Mayo and Sligo both sit above them on the table with six points apiece.

Thus, this weekend's Mayo-Sligo clash will effectively decide who wins the 2015 Connacht minor football league.

For their own part, Leitrim will bid to go out on a high when they lock horns with Galway in their last outing of the campaign.
