Leitrim SFC: Aughawillan bridge 20-year gap

September 07, 2014

Aughawillan can start preparing for their first Leitrim SFC final in 20 years after coming from behind to beat Allen Gaels in yesterday's semi-final at Pairc Sean.

A 24th minute Brian Mulvey goal gave the Gaels a 1-5 to 0-6 interval lead, but points from Stephen and Ciaran Gilheaney and Gary Plunkett had Aughawillan back on terms early in the second period.

Brian and Thomas Mulvey both found the target to edge the Gaels into a 1-7 to 0-8 lead, but a flurry of late scores from the Plunketts - Gary, Noel and Mark - saw Aughawillan prevail.

St. Mary's, Kiltoghert and Glencar/Manorhamilton will meet in the second semi-final at Pairc Sean this evening.
