Footballers to face full strength London
May 04, 2012
Any hope of Leitrim having an easy time of it against London in their Connacht SFC opener in Ruislip on June 3 was ended on Wednesday night when London clubs voted to fast-track the start of their club championship, in order to ensure all of their players will be eligible to face the Ridge County.
A rule change at Congress last month, which states that players cannot play for a county team unless they have played in the club championship in that county either in the year in question or the previous year, had left the Exiles without 12 players - including team captain Sean McVeigh - for their Connacht SFC first round tie.
But those players will now be available after Wednesday night's emergency meeting voted to bring forward the London SFC first round games to the weekend of May 26/27. The first round matches weren't due to take place until July.
