Leitrim teams went down fighting
February 02, 2012
Both the county VEC and U21 football teams showed up well last weekend.
In a dramatic Connacht VEC final, Leitrim produced a rousing second-half performance and were denied by two goal-line clearances as they lost to Mayo VEC by 0-7 to 0-6 at Ballyhaunis.
There were some inspirational performances from Leitrim players in that match and the same can be said for the county U21 side that took part in the Hastings Cup Shield final at Lanesboro on Saturday, where Conor Beirne's injury-time point ensured extra time after a brilliant fightback.
Unfortunately, the Rossies got on top during the extra 20 minutes to win by 0-19 to 0-12.
