McCrann makes history
February 02, 2012
Cathal McCrann was honoured in both codes at the County Board annual awards night.
At a gala function in the Bush Hotel last Friday night, the Gortletteragh clubman wrote a piece of history when collecting the Club Hurler of the Year and Senior County Footballer of the Year awards.
McCrann, who plays midfield for his club in both codes but in goals for the county footballers, told the Leitrim Observer:
"I wasn't really expecting either of them. The club hurling one - there was a good few boys that played well last year and I didn't think I would get that one.
"The senior one in a big one. Not too many boys have won it in Gortletteragh. The last person was probably Seamus Quinn, I don't know. It's a great award - I do try hard and I'm delighted.
"Goalkeepers don't often get awards, it's more or less outfield players and it's great to get that recognition, especially playing in goals ... not too many get it."
