The Late John Cronin

Many people in the town and other parts of Beara are again mourning the loss of a dear friend with the deeply regretted death which occurred at St Joseph's Hospital, Castletownbere, of John Cronin, Foildarring, Castletownbere. John Joseph, as he was popularly known, was a member of an old established family, highly esteemed among the community.

John was a member of a group of young Beara people who went to Germany in the 1960s to train as operatives at the new net factory that had opened in Castletownbere. A keen GAA man, he played in the goal for Castletownbere and at his removal and funeral, members of the Castletownbere club and Beara Board formed a guard of honour.

The remains were removed to the Church of the Sacred Heart where they were blessed on arrival by Cannon Gearoid Walsh PP. Following Requiem Mass on Sunday, burial took place in Droum Cemetery, and the large, representative group of mourners paying their final respects reflected the esteem and high regard in which the deceased and his family are held.

Deepest sympathy in their sad loss is extended to his wife Margaret, sons Maurice and Sean, daughters Georgina and Sean, sons-in-law, grandchildren, brother, sisters and other relatives.
