Regan ruled out for season

Leitrim's Colin Regan
Leitrim have suffered a hammer blow with the news that veteran Colin Regan has been ruled out for the rest of the season through injury.

Fears mounted when the Melvin Gaels man suffered a knee injury whilst training with his club last Sunday week and after undergoing scans last week to discover the full extent of the injury, it was confirmed that the 34-year-old will play no further part in Leitrim's season.

"I'm gutted for Colin," said Leitrim boss Mickey Moran.

"We had encouraged him to come back and his return was a real plus for us. He's so well respected and is a leader on and off the pitch."

Regan told this week's Leitrim Observer newspaper that he was informed by doctors that he had suffered severe medial ligament and cartilage damage and bruising on the bone.

The scale of the injury taken in with the player's age, means that it is unlikely he will feature again for club or county.
