McGowan relishing 'real test'
February 26, 2010
After Leitrim's comfortable victory over Kilkenny at the weekend, Martin McGowan says he is now looking forward to what he envisages as a "very tough" visit to Clare on Sunday week.
Leitrim got their first points on the board in Division Four last Saturday after losses to Waterford at home to and away to Wicklow and McGowan now feels that the next trip to Ennis will tell the team exactly where they are at at the this point.
"We went through the 70 minutes well there today and we will get a real test of ourselves down in Clare," McGowan told the Leitrim Observer. "Traditionally, it has been a very tough place to go but it is not invincible. We have performed very well there in the past though we mightn't have got as many wins as we should have.
"I seem to remember Michael Foley having a very good game there five or six years ago under Declan Rowley and Leitrim coming away with a very good point. That is what we are going to find out about ourselves, how far we have come along since the Waterford game.
"Today is just another game of football, a chance for us to progress along to the Clare game. That's going to be the real test for us," he added.
Leitrim travel to play Clare on Sunday, March 7, at Cusack Park, where throw-in is scheduled for 2.30pm.
