August 01, 2008
The late Frank Crowe (RIP) Our deepest sympathies to the Crowe family, Droomodbeg, the Geelan family Cloonageeher, the Howard family, Clooncumber, Bornacoola, the Dugdale family, Tullyoran, Mohill, on the death of Frank Crowe, Alveston, Bristol, England, on Friday 25 July. Frank died at the residence of his son Norman, at Woodford, Gloucestershire. He was in his 90th year. He left Ireland over 70 years ago but he loved to visit home each summer. His wife, on Hazel, died ten years ago. He is also deeply regretted by his daughter Sheila King (Coventry), his son Norman, five grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren. He was a brother of the late Florrie Geelan and of the late Jim Crowe. His other sorrowing sisters and brother are: Susan Howard, Anna Dugdale,Violet Tuthill and George Crowe who lives in the home place in Dromodbeg. Frank played football for Annaduff in the 1930's and a few years later, he escaped from the German army as they advanced on Dunkirk in 1940. Frank sister Anna said that Frank was exemplary son who never forgot his parents and home. He loved to hear all the news from Dromod and Annaduff. He followed the fortunes of Annaduff club with interest. His nephew is Mohill's and Leitrim's famous GAA player George Dugdale and they say that George followed in the footballing footprints of his uncle. (George, a PE teacher in Monaghan, I'm told, has done a brilliant, professional job training the Co. Leitrim senior panel). Frank will be buried at Alveston, on Monday 4th August, alongside his wife Hazel. Courtesy of the Leitrim Observer 1st August, 2008
