SFC semi-finals take centre stage
September 12, 2008
A place in the senior football championship final is what is at stake for Bornacoola, Kiltubrid, St. Mary's and Glencar/Manor who are all in the semi-final action this weekend.
Bornacoola face Kiltubrid in the first semi-final on Saturday at 6pm in Pairc Sean. The second semi-final pits St. Mary's against Glencar/Manor at 4.30pm on Sunday. The first game is a repeat of the 2005 final and last year's semi-final which saw Kiltubrid come out on top on both occasions. Kiltubrid are once again favourites to progress to another final, but Bornacoola's poor record against them has to end some time and this could be their best opportunity.
St. Mary's, who booked their place in the last-four with a 2-12 to 0-9 victory over Sean O'Heslin's in last weekend's quarter-final, are fancied to overcome Glencar/Manor in a classic north versus south clash. Glencar/Manor have started to deliver on their rich promise this year, but their lack of experience at this stage of the championship could cost them.
