AIB ALL IRELAND CLUB HURLING JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL

Castleblayney HC 1-8

Carrick-on-Shannon 0-10

Castleblayney held out for the narrowest of victories against a resurgent Carrick on Shannon in this tough, no holds barred contest in TEG Cusack Park, Mullingar, on Sunday afternoon last to book their place in the All Ireland final.

It was a result though that Castleblayney deserved as they had been the better team for the bulk of this contest and had they been a bit more clinical in their finishing, particularly in the first half, they would not have had to endure that nail biting finish when they came under increasing pressure as Carrick on Shannon threw everything into attack in an attempt to salvage the situation.

Castleblayney led at half time by 0-6 to 0-4 and went five up early in the second half thanks largely to a goal from a penalty by Hugh Byrne but they were clinging on at the death as Carrick gradually eroded their advantage.
