Sometimes it is worthwhile being a small county and certainly for Leitrim GAA clubs, this is the occasion.

Limerick businessman JP McManus’ generous donation of €100,000 to every county board in the country, which is to be divided equally to clubs has been greeted with delight by those concerned.

So the less clubs in the county, the more money they will receive and with only 24 clubs in Leitrim, the division works out at €4,166 each.

While the average amount that clubs are getting in other counties is between €1,000 and €2,000, Leitrim are one of the biggest benefactors of the donation.

The money will be a huge boost to every club as everyone knows the efforts that needs to be put in on an annual basis to raise the necessary finances to run annually.
