The return of Emlyn Mulligan to full fitness is a timely boost for the Leitrim footballers.

Mulligan had been sidelined since last April after he damaged his cruciate for a third time, but the talented forward came through an in-house game last week without any ill-effects and is available for selection against Waterford this weekend.

The news only gets better for Leitrim manager Brendan Guckian as Ronan Kenney and Paddy Maguire also return having withdrawn from the squad due to study and work commitments respectively.

To have three such experienced players back in the fold may have come too late for their league campaign, but Guckian and his selectors will be delighted to have them on board as their Connacht SFC opener against New York looms.

Leitrim take on Waterford away from home this Sunday before rounding off the campaign with a home clash against Wicklow the following week. Two wins from these games would be a huge confidence boost to the side as they look to the summer months.
