Portlaoise took their place in the senior football championship winners' group following a 1-6 to 0-6 victory over Stradbally at O'Moore Park on Wednesday night. There, they will be joined by The Rock, Crettyard, Arles-Kilcruise, St. Joseph's, The Heath and Graiguecullen who won their first round matches last weekend. The Rock defeated Ballylinan 0-11 to 0-7, Crettyard edged out Portarlington 1-8 to 1-7, Arles-Kilcruise overcame O'Dempsey's 1-12 to 1-7, St. Joseph's saw off Mountmellick 1-12 to 0-13, The Heath defeated Clonaslee-St. Manman's 0-14 to 2-6, while last year's intermediate champions Graiguecullen were 1-7 to 0-7 winners over Arles-Killeen.
