Roe interested in Laois job

August 12, 2008
Pat Roe has expressed his interest in succeeding Liam Kearns as Laois football manager. Kearns stepped down from the post after two years last week, and Roe, who recently vacated the Offaly hot-seat, has admitted that he would love a crack at managing his native county. "I'd say it's probably the aspiration of the vast majority of county team managers to manage their native county at some stage of their career," said the former Laois dual player, who was overlooked for the position when it went to Kearns in late 2006. "It's certainly an ambition of mine and so if I'm approached by the Laois county board, I'd certainly be willing to a be a candidate for the positon." Under 21 manager Sean Demspey, who led the O'Moore County minors to an All-Ireland title win in 2003, is being widely touted for the vacant role. But Roe has earned senior inter-county experience with Carlow, Wexford and Offaly, and this could stand to him. "The two years with Offaly took its toll on me, but still when a vacancy in your own county crops up, it's not something you'd turn down a chance of being chosen for," he added.
