Mick Lillis says that Ross Munnelly's decision to give it another year with Laois is "a big boost" to the county's prospects for the forthcoming season.

Munnelly has been a part of the O'Moore County's set-up since 2003, winning a Leinster SFC title with them that summer.

The fact that Munnelly turned 33 last Wednesday doesn't concern Lillis as the new Laois manager knows that the Arles/Kilcruise star is still in excellent physical shape.

"It's a big boost that Ross will be available to us next year as you can't buy the kind of experience that he has accumulated over the last 12 to 13 years with Laois," Lills told the Irish Daily Mirror.

"And despite the number of years that Ross has been playing inter-county football there would be no issue about him continuing at the top level for another year as he leads a very well-balanced lifestyle and keeps himself in great physical shape."

He added: "I'm sure he will have a lot more to offer Laois football in next year's league and championship."
