Plunkett looks at the bigger picture

One swallow doesn't make a summer is Laois manager Seamus Plunkett's philosophy following their defeat to Offaly in the NHL Division 1B opener last weekend.

The O'Moore County lost out in their opening league match to their neighbours last Saturday night and immediately they are on the backfoot in a tough division.

Nonetheless, Plunkett is looking at their all round performances and not just one game and he stressed to the Leinster Express that they still have a chance of staying up.

"Overall, for the development of the team, what we are looking for is constant improvement, and not necessarily targeting games and that type of stuff," said Plunkett.

"At the end of the day, we want to stay in this Division, it is very competitive. Waterford and Limerick drew so it is a hugely competitive division and you do need to pick up points along the way.

"In that sense it is very important, but in the wider sense, we are all about developing the team and constantly seeking out improvement as we go along."
