Laois senior footballer James Finn is set to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro.

Laois senior footballer James Finn is embarking on a fundraiser to climb Africa's highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro.

Finn along with fellow Laois native Gary Fitzpatrick will undertake the mammoth challenge on October 9th. Both men are doing the climb for different charities.

Suicide awareness charity Pieta House will be the beneficiary of Finn's trek, while Fitzpatrick is raising money for Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland.

The Laois footballer admitted to the Leinster Express that he is a novice when it comes to hill climbing.

"My only experience of mountains before this was going up to my granny's house in the Slieve Blooms," admitted Finn. "We were looking for an adventure, some people go to Australia, but we thought we would do something for charity."

Finn made his championship debut against Wicklow in this year's championship at wing forward.
